About Prof.
Prof. Noriyoshi Teramoto graduated with a DDS in 1989 and as a PhD in Medicine in 1993 from Kyushu University, Japan. After a short period of clinical training, he moved to the Department of Pharmacology, The University, Oxford, UK. Whilst in Oxford, he held a series of research fellowships, including those from The Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council (MRC) and The Sir Edward P. Abraham Scholarship Foundation. In 1996 January, he became a Senior Research Fellow (Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford), and in 1997 August, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Medical Basic Sciences, supervised by Prof. Alison F. Brading and Dr Thomas C. Cunnane in the “City of Dreaming Spires”.
In 1997 September, he moved back to the Department of Pharmacology, Graduated School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University (Fukuoka, Japan), where he held the posts of Assistant Professor (1997 - 2002) and Lecturer (2002 - 2010). He also held the concurrent position of Lecturer (2002 - 2010) in Kyushu University International Student Centre in order to look after under- and post-graduate foreign students who came from all over the world.
Whilst studying in Kyushu University as a Medical Lecturer, he was honourably invited by enormous numbers of National Academy Societies (UK, RS, The Royal Society, 2006, 2010; Australia, AA, The Australia Academy of Science, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008; Italy, L’Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL, 2009) and The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan (Australia, 2002) as a short visiting research fellow and also won numbers of incredible awards.
In 2010 June, Dr Teramoto was appointed as The Head of Department and Professor of the newly founded Department of Pharmacology in Faculty of Medicine, Saga University, establishing a new research ‘Empire’.
In 2011 February, Prof. Teramoto was honourably picked up by the Council for Science and Technology Policy (CSTP) in the Cabinet Office as a scientist of the ‘New NEXT Generation of Top 300 BEST Japanese Young Researchers’ who expect to possess uncountable and sustainable potentials to be world-leaders for the NEXT Generation in wide-different academic field s (such as literature, economics, politics, music, science, engineering, agriculture, dentistry, medicine etc.). Indeed, Prof. Teramoto was the only one selected Principle Investigator who has performed the programme in Saga Prefecture as well as Saga University (2011 - 2014). During these period, he was also honourably invited by Canada (NSERC: The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, 2011) for two months and UK (The Royal Society, 2010 & 2011).
From 2013 January to 2013 December, Prof. Teramoto became an academic host researcher to employ a JSPS Short Visiting Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Dr Peter Sidaway: Faculty of Medicine, the University of Birmingham, UK) for North American and European Researchers for one year.
In 2014 July, Prof. Teramoto was further appointed as a Visiting Professor in Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan: 2014 - ).
In 2015 and 2016, Prof. Teramoto has visited to Prof. Patrik Rorsman’s Lab in order to collaborate with intact patch-techniques in OCDEM (Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism), which was supported by the 2015 Saga University International Travel Grant.
In 2016, Prof. Teramoto has stately obtained The Takeda Research Support.
In 2017 May, Prof. Teramoto was selected as a member of The University Top-Management Programmes in The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS, Tokyo), which was financially supported by CSPT. Furthermore, Prof. Teramoto was warmly supported by seven great philanthropies (i.e. The Pfizer Academic Contributions, The Novo Nordisk Pharma Research Aid, The Daiichi-Sankyo Company Donation Programme, The Asteras Research Support, The Tanabe-Mitsubishi Research Support, The Shionogi Research Support and The Takeda Research Support) in order to expand our research fields of KATP channels in pancreatic β-cells.
In 2017 October, Prof. Teramoto was hounorably appointed to be the Vice-President and the Executive Director of Saga University.
